Funny Hotel

A short and weird game about exploring a very unfunny hotel.

The Funny Hotel is an experiment in creating a surreal aesthetic using my own hand drawn sprites, some fun shaders, and weird dialogue.

In total, it should take around 5-10 minutes to play.

This game is the second game that I've created, and it's a pretty far departure from the more systems-oriented game that I first worked on. In this game, I wanted to see what kind of environments and tones I could create with the skills I had so far. Overall, it involved a lot of drawing in Paint.NET, 3D modeling in Blender, and scene creation in Unity. 

Also, I messed around with shaders a lot for this project. It's a submission for the Fluffy Horror Jam, whose theme involves making a game that's cute and creepy, so I needed my graphics to reflect those themes. I used a lot of random noise in my shaders to give the environments and objects a slightly creepy look that really clashes with the cutesy look of the hand-drawn characters.

It was also my first time working with Zenject, a dependecy injection framework that allowed me to experiment with design patterns that I learned in my software engineering class. I used Zenject to create the dialogue system and the behavior scripts for the characters. I definitely ended up following some bad programming practices while using Zenject since I was generally inexperienced with using dependency injection, but it was a very valuable learning experience since I have a much better grasp of it now!
